Rib Eye Reviews

Goodman City

Ah, Goodman. If someone was to ask me cold “where can I get the best rib eye in London”, there’s a pretty good chance I’d be sending them to Goodman. With a location just off Cheapside in the City, unfussy service and a down-to-earth setting, there’s a lot to be said for this place…

I’ve eaten at Goodman many times, so I knew what to expect when I ordered a “medium” rib eye: a perfect rib eye steak. Suffice to say, this was the best steak I’ve eaten all year. Not only was the steak perfectly cooked, the texture was nicely charred on the inside, but lovely and tender on the inside – just perfect.

I went for the bog standard rib eye on the menu, and I suggest you do the same. No matter whether it was corn or grass fed, dry or wet aged, I honestly don’t care – this steak was absolutely delicious.

I’d call these “chips”, not “fries”. The chips were too fat for my liking, but they were the best fat chips I’ve had in a while, and they’re just about thin enough.

Our waitress was nice enough – not overly friendly, but perfectly functional and keen to ensure we were seen to. The service here isn’t formal at all, and seemingly they make no attempt to be.

This is a relatively small restaurant, and is fairly dark. The table setups are nice enough, and it has the feel of a traditional place. I like the setting. The restrooms are however down a dingy staircase, and fairly small.

No starter, but including a main and desert, and this came to just over £120 for two including no alcohol. A bit more than usual, but still pretty decent.

I like the breads here, but obviously nowhere near as good as Gaucho’s cheesy balls.

[rating meta_key=”overall”]

This is the best steak I’ve had in 2017 to date. If they fixed the fries, this place would be a full five stars. Enough said – pay Goodman a visit
